Facility management (FM) is about the integrated management of all the different services clustered under the broad Facility Management function. Management is therefore key to any facility manager. In this module, the student explores classic and contemporary management theories and principles. Furthermore, the student is introduced to practices pertaining to senior manager and the corporate governance challenges; the manager and his/her boss; the manager of a function and his/her role within the corporate strategic management system and FM function; managing self as well as managing a team. Attention is also be given to the link between managing the core function and managing resources such as finance, human resources, information systems and processes. This will prepare the student for the management role of the full FM function in the demand organisation.
